Fake Bake

It’s usually around this time of year that I realize how pasty my skin looks. Now, as tempting and as easy it is to go to the tanning booth and “fake and bake”, it’s also detrimental to your health.  With the increase in skin cancer, the extreme exposure of harmful rays your body receives in a booth, the risk just isn’t worth it.  Not to mention your skin loses elasticity and collagen the more it’s exposed to the harmful rays, thus aging you at a much higher rate.

So now what’s my advice? Self-tanners of course!  Commercial self-tanners tend to have a higher content of DHA(the chemical that reacts with dead skin cells to develop a tan), so be advised. If you choose a spray-tan at your local salon be sure to keep your eyes closed and cover your mouth and nose.

At home use can be a little tricky, so here are some tips:

  • Make sure you have exfoliated your entire body before application.
  • Use a cream or gel for application rather than a foam. Product will spread much easier, leaving you with less chance of streaking.
  • End the application with your favorite body moisturizer. This will help you blend the product evenly over your entire body. Thus leaving you with a flawless faux tan.

Thank you so much for the tip on using a moisturizer after you apply the self tanner. I have never quite had mine blend correctly and have been going to a tanning booth because I could never get it to work! I am definitely going to try this, do you recommend any specific self tanner?

My favorites are L’oreal Sublime Bronze Gel, or Bliss spray ” A Tan For All Seasons”.
Let me know if you try one of these and if you liked either of them.
    Thank you for reading!
