Microdermabrasion

What I am craving right now is a serious exfoliation of my face. Now, I am a huge advocate for daily exfoliation with scrubs, and or acids but, every now and then I need to make an appointment and get a Microdermabrasion or Chemical Peel.

Although, the kits available today for at home microdermabrasion are wonderful, they don’t quite get as deep as a MDA at a clinical spa. Microdermabrasion machines combine suction with mechanical exfoliation. This stimulates blood circulation and removes the top layers of dead skin, enabling your skin cells to renew themselves.

Chemical peels come in many different strengths, and types, and should be discussed with your esthetician as to which is best suited for your skin type. In most cases chemical peels go a bit deeper than microdermabrasion, in cell exfoliation. Also, depending on the strength of the peel you can create a combination package of MDA’s and Chemical peels, rotating as close to a week apart, to achieve more noticeable results.

What is even better about going in and leaving with smooth, clear skin, is that these treatments cost the same or less than traditional facials. And there is no guessing as to whether or not the facial you just received actually did anything, it’s guaranteed.  So, check it out next time your skin is feeling drab and needs a pick me up.

I got the neutrogena microdermabrasion kit. It made my skin feel great, but I totally broke out after. Is my skin too sensitive for professional microdermabrasion?

It is perfectly normal for someone to breakout when starting to exfoliate deeply, like with a microdermabrasion.
The reason for this is that you may have had underlying congestion that was just waiting it’s turn to come through. I know it’s not a pleasant experience but, it had to come out eventually. The top layer of dead skin holds in excess oil, allowing your pores to clog. So when you remove this layer you are allowing your skin to breath again and get rid of impurities it may have had. The more you keep up on the exfoliation process, the less breakouts you will have, and more clear, smooth skin.

Wondering if you have heard anything about Cindy Crawford’s Meaningful Beauty line? I am looking for a good skin kit that’s affordable. I used to use Arbonne’s Nutramin RE but it’s really expensive. The Meaningful beauty line is about $30 per month.

I have not heard anything about Cidy Crawfords line. However, honestly if it’s $30 a month, you’re probably getting the same active strength as a product like Olay, or Neutrogena. It doesn’t mean it’’s bad either, any skin care regimen you are on and keeeping up with is better than nothing. However, products with “active” ingredients that are going to make an impact on the skin are unfortunately going to cost you a bit more.
A few great lines that are affordable, and last more than one month per purchase, and make an impact on the skin are, La Roche Possay, and Newport Cosmeceuticals.
