Current Addictions

Everyone has a few staples in their beauty routine that they can’t live without. Here are Brookemoinet.com’s, favorite thing’s.

1. Aveda Body Wash in Shampure or Energizing scent.

“The natural scents from Aveda wake me up inside. Their body wash is a pure and refreshing way to start the day!”

2. Bumble and Bumble Sunday Shampoo -

“I like to use this on more than just Sunday to help fade my color after I just have it done.   Helps my colored hair look more natural.”

3. La Roche Posay- Biomedic Micro Exfoliating Scrub-

“The best exfoliating facial scrub out there by a land slide! Every exfoliating cleaser I’ve tried doesn’t come close to the exfoliating power of this product.  It deeply exfoliates without being too harsh on the skin. Like a microdermabrasion at your own sink.”

4. Oral-B Glide Silk Floss-

“Glides through my tight teeth without getting stuck or fraying”

5. Bath and Body Works gentle foaming hand wash-

“Affordably luxurious. Your guests will compliment it every time they use it. Leaves a nice soft scent on hands.”

6. T.N. Dickensons Witch Hazel-

“Great as a post face-wash astringent. I could bathe in this stuff! “

7. Burt’s Bees Chap-stick-

“My lips can’t live without it! I love that it’s natural.  I know it not just creating a barrier over my lips like most chap-sticks out there, it’s also healing and moisturizing them.”

8. Cetaphil Cream-

“Heals the driest skin in an instant. Great for sensitive skin and skin affected by eczema as well. I love slathering it on myhands before I go to sleep. “

9. Pedicure by OPI “Soften”-

“Amazing callus softener with AHA & Green Tea Extract. Apply before bed and wake up with baby soft feet.”

10. Baby Oil-

“For me it’s the best eye makeup remover. It loosens even the toughest, waterproof mascara, or lash glue, or eye paint you may have worn that evening. Plus, you won’t be doing a lot of rubbing with this, which can cause premature aging around the eyes.”

11. Bed Head Masterpiece Hair Spray-

“Smells delicious! Leaves a clean shine, and holds any masterpiece in place. Use a little for a lighter hold, or you can build it up for a stiffer hold.”

Big Hair

I was recently asked how to create volume and keep it there, even if you have super stick straight, flat hair by nature.

Being as I have been blessed with naturally stick straight, flat, lifeless hair myself, I have more than a little experience when it comes to making my hair look bigger and thicker than it naturally is. These trick not only work for straight, flat hair, but for all hair types looking for a little extra umph.

First, start by looking at what shampoo and conditioner you’re using. Chances are your two most importand styling products are working against you.Try a volumizing shampoo and conditioner, or a lightweight/ gentle, daily shampoo and conditioner.
When you condition do not use a lot of conditioner, just a very small amount. If this still isn’t giving you the results you want, try either skipping conditioner or just apply the conditioner on your ends. BedHead makes a yummy volumizing shampoo and  conditioner, or opt for their conditioning spray/leave in conditioner. These products don’t dry your hair out or strip color and they are very lightweight.
Some also say try conditioning before shampooing, and they say this gives hair more volume.
Second, get yourself a “back-combing” comb.
Trust me, these babies work wonders. Try your local Sally Beauty Supply.
Take small, thin sections and begin backcombing by lifting the section high, and gently from the top of the section comb down to the bottom. Do this a few times each section.
After you have done the sections in which you want to achieve volume, turn your head upside down and spray with a light weight hairspray.

Viola! Sexy voluminous hair.

Straw to Silk

As a Cosmetologist I have seen my fair share of damaged hair. That would also include my own hair.  This also feeds my interest for trying products, any and all of them. Can I just tell you that no, not all products are created equally.

Lets see, you have the store brand products that claim salon quality (I’ve yet to see the similarities there), and then you have low-end salon, mid-grade salon, and high-end salon quality. Yes, I know they aren’t labeled that way but, trust me, there are different quality levels of professional products.

For me the best products are sold only at a higher professional level salon.  The products distributors look into the salons for certain qualifications to carry their product.  Luckily for me I have had the opportunity to work with some of these different brands so I can now tell you what my favorite is. The best brand for all hair types is Kerastase, hands down.  Whether your hair is wirey, dry and curly/unruly, or weak, damaged, and on the verge of falling out of your head, this brand works wonders.

From shampoo, and conditioner, to vitamins, and treatment for swimmers hair, Kerastase has you covered. Not only will Kerastase work your hair into salon shape on a daily basis, their in salon treatments work miracles as well. I have felt the difference in my clients hair, my hair, and my family’s hair. Trust me on this one, it’s well worth the price tag.
